Recreational Vehicle (RV) Insurance is a policy that covers the vehicles that transport you towards fun such as campers, camper trailers, travel trailers, or motorhomes. Having the correct insurance in place for these investments so that you can enjoy your time in them without having to worry about what would happen should an accident occur. RV Insurance is financial protection for damage or injury that occurs to property or a person when your RV is involved in the accident.
What does Recreational Vehicle Insurance cover?
Just as with auto and motorcycle insurance, RV Insurance has two main types of coverage – liability and property damage.
Liability Coverage is important because your RV moves and there is a possibility that it could cause damage to others property or persons. The liability coverage will also help with costs associated with a spill or environmental cleanup.
Property Damage Coverage helps with expenses related to the following risks:
Physical damage – this would help with costs associated with repairing or replacing the physical property related to the RV that is damaged in a comprehensive accident.
Vandalism/Theft – provides protection in the event of vandalism to your RV or theft of your RV occurring.
Collision – this coverage would provide assistance with expenses for repairing or replacing the physical property due to damage caused by a collision.
Personal effects – your policy may allow for reimbursement of personal property that is stored on the RV such as an ATV, boat, or other “toy” vehicle.
It is important to ensure your motorhome, camper, travel trailer, or other recreational vehicle is properly protected with adequate insurance. While it would seem that an auto policy would be sufficient coverage, regular auto policies do not include extra items that RVs might have such as appliances, plumbing, and accessories. Another important piece of information to note is that emergency expenses for a recreational vehicle would not be covered without a true RV policy.
